LIBRO
Gimeno, Eloi, Fernandez, Horacio & Uriarte, Jon
LIBRO is an essay about the photography book and its current situation in Spain. Although the photobook is not the only way to capture and share work, this format for presenting photography has experienced spectacular development in Spain. Through dialogue with several key figures in this boom, this work seeks to address what has happened in the last ten years of exponential growth in both the quantity and quality of published photobooks. LIBRO includes an essay on what the photobook is, along with a conversation among Horacio Fernández (independent curator and author of numerous books on photography books), Jon Uriarte (photographer and photography curator), Cristina de Middel (author of the acclaimed The Afronauts and Party), and Eloi Gimeno. Eloi Gimeno is likely the most innovative Spanish designer in the field of photobooks. He designed the work KARMA by Óscar Monzón, which won The Paris Photo-Aperture Foundation First Photobook Award 2013, and he also contributed as a designer for LIBRO. LIBRO has been published in conjunction with the exhibition “FOTOLLIBRES: Aquí i Ara,” which is being held at the Foto Colectania Foundation in Barcelona from May 13 to July 30, 2014.
