La fotografía como documento social

Freund, Gisèle

Photography, which can be interpreted as an element of knowledge and as a work of art, often serves as both information and art; it is a communication tool subject to many changes and all kinds of manipulations. The history of photography cannot solely be the history of a technique. It can be asserted that Photography as a Social Document (Photographie et Société, 1974) is not only the most important work of the author but undoubtedly the most ambitious and profound, given the tone of analysis of the events it narrates as a sociological, political, and artistic history of photography, from its precursors to the present day.
