Duration

About the workshop

This workshop brings us closer to collage. Mariana opens the topic by reviewing the origins of collage and the exponents who initiated this technique and then delving into the work itself. She reviews the necessary materials and then dedicates herself to creating her own collage, emphasizing the ways of thinking to make it, cutting techniques, possibilities that arise, ways of looking. It leaves the door open for us to create whatever we want because the possibilities are endless.

Mariana Mizarela @marianamizarela

I am a Portuguese visual artist, especially a passionate collage maker! I have been developing several projects with different media such as old photography, postcards, collage on canvas and animation. I am surprised by old vintage photography from the 20th century, especially from the 50s. The images seem so theatrical, so magical and that surprises me. I also develop several painting and urban art projects.
My main concerns are to bring out the content and personal experiences of some world problems. I look for the relationship between the images. And meanwhile I develop surreal compositions in order to enter our unconscious. It's all about solving a nutcracker puzzle! Collage is a game of images and the combinations within the images are endless.
On the other hand, I am also a collage teacher. I have conducted several collage workshops for different events such as festivals, civic centers and galleries. I am also an artist member of the collage collective Coll2. This multicultural group is concerned with using collage media to talk about global issues and topics such as climate change, gender violence, migration, feminism or even the global pandemic.
